Tension and sobriety
Restless | Book design
The book ‘Restless’ presents a selection of images photographer Jeroen Hanselaer made during several journeys all over the world. The design of the book fully focuses on the superior quality of the photographs: precise positioning on the pages, stringent margins and balanced proportions. Textual elements, like captions and page numbers, were designed to occur non-intrusive. Every page contains one image maximum. Image combinations (on spreads) were carefully chosen. The (visual) tension is an effect of combining or contrasting images in terms of subject, composition or framing, extra visual tension was created.
‘Restless’ occurs sober and unpretentious. The images, as the title of the book suggests, provoke enough ‘stories’ by themselves.
